Prayer: A powerful way to support deployed Military Troops and their Families By Lillian Penner There
are many deployed U.S. military troops who are serving around the
world. With their families left behind, they miss the laughter of their
loved ones and long for the day they will be back home again. In most
cases, their families understand the importance of the mission, but
deployment still results in significant struggle. It’s important
that grandparents come along side these families in a vital ministry of
prayer. After many years of experience working with young children and
grandparents, Dr. Arthur Kornhaber, well-known child psychologist, has shown that involved grandparents have the power to facilitate healing in young lives. Here
are 7 prayer suggestions to focus on—one for each day of the week. You
might want to print this page and keep the prayer suggestions in a
prominent place.
MONDAY: Pray God’s hand of protection on our troops. TUESDAY: Pray God’s protection on the families left behind. WEDNESDAY: Pray God’s protection on the marriages. THURSDAY: Pray God’s protection and comfort on the children. FRIDAY:
Pray God’s hand on the grandparents to provide spiritual strength and
encouragement so that they can extend the hope we have in Christ to
these families. SATURDAY: Pray God’s peace for the grandparents as they
face the uncertainty of having sons, daughters and possibly
grandchildren in potential danger daily. SUNDAY: As you enjoy the privilege of worship today, Pray God’s powerful presence to be in the center American troops who are followers of Christ. Pray
the Light of God’s love will be reflected in their relationships—not
only with their colleagues but with the local people. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel.
