A Grandchild's Heart

This month our grandchildren are excited about Valentine’s Day. Because so much is focused on the heart, this is a wonderful time to talk about their heart, the wellspring of life and hope. I thought I would share some verses from the God’s Word in the book of Proverbs that we could use in our prayers for them.

3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understand. 

7:3 Keep (God’s) their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck.

14:33 Wisdom in enshrined in an understanding heart.

15:13 A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.

15:30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart.

17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine.

22:17 Listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my instruction.

23:16 Yes, my heart will thrill when you speak what is right and just.

23:19 My child, listen and be wise. Keep your heart on the right course.

23:26 O my son, give me your heart, May your eyes delight in my ways of wisdom.

27:19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the person.

Above all, this ought to be the centerpiece of our prayers for our grandchildren – “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.” Proverbs 4:23

Lillian Ann Penner is a retired secretary from public high school in Bakersfield, CA. She and her husband, John, have been married 48 years and currently reside in Portland, OR.  They have three married sons and nine grandchildren.

Lillian has been active in church ministry for 45 years, and has led a "Heart to Heart" mentoring program for women, participated in a short term missions trip in Ukraine, volunteered at the Northwest Regional office of Wycliffe Translators, Jose Zayas Evangelistic Association, and Focus On the Family.
