Prayer Suggestions for Grandparents

The prayer of a righteous man (grandparent) is powerful and effective.  James 5:16b

Adult Influences

by Lillian Penner, CGN National Prayer Coordinator

“. . . lead blameless lives and do what is right,
speaking the truth with sincere hearts.”

Psalm 15:2

Have you thought about praying for the many adults who influence your grandchildren? Are the adults involved in your grandchildren’s lives good role models?

Here are a few suggestions to pray for them.

That they will:

  • Always speak the truth to children

  • Model lives of integrity to children

  • Transport the children safely

  • Look out for the child’s best interest

  • Make children feel safe

  • Protect children from abuse: verbal, emotional & physical

  • Be an encourager to the children

Adults who have influence on your grandchildren may be their other grandparents, teachers, principal, coach, carpool or bus driver, Sunday school teacher, children’s director, pastor, youth leaders, neighbors, scout leaders, extra-curricular activity teachers, doctors, etc.

If possible, meet your grandchildren’s teachers and others involved in their lives so you know for whom you are praying. You may even have an opportunity to let them know you are praying for them. It makes praying more personable.

Prayer

Lord, I ask for your divine protection over my grandchildren.

Thank you that you are their healer and

can touch their bodies when they are ill or injured.

Lord, please keep them alert so they won’t be lured into perilous situations,

and prompt me to pray when they’re in any kind of danger.

I give you thanks for all the ways you have intervened in their lives

so far in protecting them and restoring their health. 1
