Prayer Suggestions for GrandparentsThe prayer of a righteous man (grandparent) is powerful and effective. James 5:16b The Gift of Prayerby Lillian Penner, CGN National Prayer Coordinator I have asked a number of friends if their grandparents prayed for them. The response I received most often was that their grandparents were Christians and went to church. Surely, they had prayed for them. Then I asked if their grandparents had ever told them that they prayed for them. Most of them said, “No, they never told me.” I thought it was sad that their grandparents had not communicated that they were praying for them. Have you shared with your grandchildren you are praying for them? This Christmas would be a good time to let them know you are praying for them regularly. Send them a card, email or tell them in person. Sign your cards and letters “your praying grandparents.” Knowing you are praying for them daily could be a great encouragement to them. Ask the older ones directly “How would you like for me to pray for you?” A wonderful support for the parents of the younger grandchildren would be to ask them how they would like you to pray for them. Then check with them how God is answering the prayers. It keeps your hearts connected. Keeping in touch through prayer can make a big difference both now and in the future. Grandparents are fond of giving gifts to their grandchildren but the greatest gift we can give them is the gift of a praying grandparent. December 10, 2007
